Hey y’all, I’m Karen Tindall Tillery, my friends call me KT and I’m excited to give you a glimpse into my crazy whirlwind of a life. I am a Birmingham born Southern girl and an Auburn University graduate, WAR EAGLE! My journey has been one of ambition, creativity, and a deep love for turning the old into something beautiful and new. As a go-getter by heart I proudly wear many hats, running not just one, but 2, crazy, fun, and amazing businesses: Restoration Log Cabin Rentals and Karen Tillery Designs. .
I love ALL my jobs, from Mom to Gigi, bride wrangler to designer, and cabin rental manager to builder of hand-hewn log cabins. I started working with old, reclaimed buildings and materials over 30 years ago. I renovated a whole bunch of houses and built my first house 20 years ago. I renovated my first cabin 18 years ago and finally got my builders license about 9 years ago so I could start designing and building for other people. My love for renovating and restoring 1800’s log cabins and barns, combined with my design business, has led to an awesome late life career as a designer on the TV show "Barnwood Builders" on the Magnolia Network. My passion? Taking the worn, the weathered, and the forgotten, and weaving my magic in a way that turns these places into breathtaking creations. There's something incredibly satisfying about giving life to forgotten beauty and I revel in every moment of the transformation process.
I love, love, love my precious family. As a mom to four wonderful kiddos and grandmother to three adorable toddlers, every moment with them is precious. I just wish they all lived closer, so we had more of those moments. I love to draw and paint and I get to enjoy that as part of my everyday life with my design business. I also love to hike I used to love to read, but let’s be real… I run 2 businesses, I get 3 pages in and I’m out like a light.🤣

I have a unique story of the “accomplishments of an art major” that I would love to share with you. I salvage, rebuild, renovate and restore 1800s log cabins. I have been doing this crazy hobby turned passion turned career for almost 20 years now. What started as one log home on the lake for our family has turned into a much, much bigger thing than I ever could have imagined. In the Fall of 2015, I had the pleasure of having Mark Bowe and his crew of amazing craftsmen build an addition onto one of my cabin projects. This collaboration set in motion for me an 8 year working relationship with Magnolia Network's Barnwood Builders! A shared passion for preserving the past and rebuilding these amazing reclaimed structures for the generations to come is our common goal. I have had a blast designing from scratch structures that they have built from individual reclaimed logs and beams and re-designing authentic existing 1800's structures for more functional modern living. I redesign and help create modern homes into the timeless exteriors of the old log cabins that Barnwood Builders save from destruction. Working with these guys has been an absolute blast. Our work goes hand in hand and I am proud to be a part of their Barnwood "family".
